1946 SABWO founded on 26 October.
1947 First blind telephonists trained and settled in jobs.
1953 Braille Services established.
1960 First study bursary, awarded to Elize Snyman, a music student of Potchefstroom.
1967 First SABWO gold medal of merit, awarded to Drs V.H. Vaughan and P.E. Biesenbach.
1972 Employment Committee established.
1975 First SABWO social worker, Elizabeth Haus, appointed.
1979 Buildings bought to house head office and Braille Services, and the first national needs conference, convened by SABWO.
1984 First S.A. computer conference, arranged by SABWO.
1988 First South African skills developer, Debby Wakeford, appointed by SABWO.
1993 SABWO lobbies successfully for a secret ballot for blind voters.
1996 SABWO celebrates its 50th anniversary and publishes its own history.
1997 Braille Services of SABWO prints and distributes South Africa's New Constitution.
2004 SABWO changed its name to Blind SA.
2006 Blind SA celebrates its 60th anniversary.
